A new community garden for Kentish Town station

Greening in action: local groups were out in force at the Big Dig at Kentish Town station last Saturday to create a new cottage garden.

The garden has been created as a joint project of local groups Camden Air Action, Transition Kentish Town, Kentish Town Neighbourhood Forum, and Of Butterflies and Bees, with financial support from Govia Thameslink and Camden Council through the local portion of the Community Infrastructure Levy.

An amazing group of volunteers helped to plant up the garden at the Big Dig and it was very good fun to help out, not least because I don’t have a garden of my own and rarely get to fill my fingernails with soil!

Dee Searle from Camden Green Party and our candidate in the Gospel Oak by-election, is a leading member of Camden Air Action. They are working on a much wider plan for green spaces to help reduce the impact of air pollution and cut traffic on Kentish Town Road. We have submitted plans to Camden Council in response to their call for ideas for their green spaces investment plan. We’re waiting for a response now.

Dee says:

“Green infrastructure can remove toxins from the air. However, the main way to reduce air pollution is to cut the  numbers of motor traffic, particularly diesel vehicles. That’s why Transition Kentish Town and Camden Air Action want Camden Council to act urgently.”
